Mouth + Hormones
Menopause is finally being talked about everywhere, except in the dental chair. Estrogen and progesterone affect the gums, saliva, caries and periodontal risk, and the bone holding the teeth in place. This course gives the whole team a shared, practical framework: what the front desk and medical history should ask, what the hygienist looks for, what the dentist screens for, and how to explain it all to patients in plain language, without stepping outside dental scope.
Learning objectives
- Identify how pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause and the years after 55 show up in the gingiva, saliva, teeth and jawbone.
- Recognize the symptoms patients report that point to hormone-related oral change.
- Apply a hormone-aware medical history and screening workflow across front desk, hygiene and the dentist.
- Explain the dental considerations before and during bone medications, and when to coordinate with the patient’s physician.
- Communicate these changes to patients in plain language that builds trust and keeps them coming back.
